LIBRARY ASSISTANT III
DEPARTMENTAL SPECIFIC DUTIES
Knowledge of online/electronic reference sources such as the Web, Galileo, CD-Rom and GIL as well as assisting patrons with location and usage of print resources including government documents.
- Assist patrons with reference questions. Possess positive and helpful attitude in an approachable and friendly manner.
- Ability to interpret and suggest strategies for research such as suggesting the best source of information available, whether print or electronic.
- Gives orientation to patrons and/or student assistants. Provides tours when necessary.
- Possess good judgement to know when to pass a reference question on to a faculty member.
- Maintains and manages reference collections to include shelving new updates, removing older editions when necessary and filing loose leaf services and code services as well as locating missing items.
- Compiles bibliographies, constructs handouts and other needed forms and assists with Term Paper Clinic preparation and other workshops on an as needed basis.
- Monitors functionality of equipment. Reports mechanical problems to the appropriate person, and keeps accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures of the library and the Information Services Department to include being aware of faculty liaison areas for referrals when necessary.
- Participation in collection development process to include recommending to librarians sources for the collection when a request is made or a need in a particular area is seen.
- Administration of Bank, Post Office, and Library Program. (IRS Tax Program)
- Other duties as assigned.
