Using Lists in the TI-83 Calculator

The TI-83 stores data for statistics in “Lists” typically named L1, L2, etc.  However you can create and rename any list using the “ALPHA” key, (the green key on your calculator).  There are two keys that you use to access your lists:  STAT and LIST (press 2nd  STAT).   Below are the screens and the features you may access with them:

STAT

Each of the screens below is found under the STAT key.  The EDIT menu allows you to change the contents of the list, sort the list in ascending or descending order or clear the list.  The CALC and TESTS menus have a variety of statistical tools we will use later.

LIST

Each of the screens below is found under the LIST key.  The NAMES menu allows you to specify a list in a command. For example, when you select the command “SortA(  the calculator will want you do specify a list to sort.  Therefore you must press LIST and scroll down to the list you wish to sort, then press ENTER.  The TI-83 will reply “Done” when the operation is complete.  You can view the sorted list again by pressing STAT and EDIT.

The OPS and MATH menu shown below also have a variety of statistical tools we will use later.
